  • Jayson Williams is handcuffed by Somerset County Sheriffs Officers as he is taken into custody Tuesday, eight years and 10 days after he fatally shot his 55-year-old limousine driver Costas Christofi at his former Hunterdon County estate.Williams, 42 is  sentenced to at least 18 months in prison Tuesday as he appears before Superior Court Judge Edward Coleman.Mr. Williams appears with his attorneys Joseph Hayden and Billy Martin.Williams pleaded guilty Jan. 11 to a downgraded charge of aggravated assault under the terms of a plea agreement reached Dec. 24 with the State Attorney General's Office, which took over the case from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.Williams, who was awaiting retrial on a reckless manslaughter charge, also waived his right for post-conviction relief, a legal motion to set aside a conviction before filing an appeal.

  • Watching caterpillars on the wall of a barn that is next to the playground are Leah Mack, Maelle Rosser, Sofi Ayling and Skyler Mack. Five families seeking a holistic-approach to early education in what they consider a high-pressure academic environment have started their own private school in a Methodist church in Gladstone. With 13 children enrolled in the K-2 school, the state-licensed school plans to add a grade each year. Private tuition runs $6,600 a year and the school is seeking more students. Parents of Black Hawk pilot killed in Iraq,  Frank  and Judy are one of an apparent increasing number of Gold Star families who turned to Freedom of Information Act to navigate their way through through the fog of a controversial war and the loss of loved ones.Capt. James Adamouski, 29, of Springfield, Va./Savannah, Ga.  died 04/02/03 in Black Hawk helicopter crash near Karbala Gap in Iraq.  He was piloting. The military account has changed from friendly fire to hostile fire to pilot disorientation. In days after the crash, his father had FOIAed the maintenance records....took more than a year for him to get them...now the theory is that it was friendly fire, based on his conversations with crew in other helicopter on the mission. The funeral for  CW4 John Priestner, Apache Pilot killed in Iraq, 182 Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade has just ended behind them.  Photographed for The Star-Ledger

Farming in 90 degree weather in Warren County, NJ.  The Hengst boys, father Ray (age 80), and his sons Jr. and Lenny bale straw in one of their fields at R. Hengst Farm in Mansfield Twp.   • The USS Daluth sits off the Sri Lankan coast near the southern city of Galle.  Hundreds of residents made their way to the beach to watch a US Navy amphibious landing.
  • Doctors from throughout Sri Lanka and the USA deliver medical aid to refugees at the Alamkulam refugee camp in Eastern Sri Lanka.  The camp is set up in Tamil held territory.
  • Villagers work to clear the area surrounding a bridge that connects the mainland to the Island village of Keechankuppam, India.  The marina area suffered great losses to fishing boats.   The village of Keechankuppam suffered huge losses in the Tsunami disaster which struck south Asia December 26, 2004.
